Microsoft users were treated to a spot of good news last month when the company revealed the update will be free for users who have Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and Windows Phone 8.1. However, in a blog post, the company explained that the giveaway isn't for everyone.
Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise will not be eligible for the free upgrade, according to Microsoft. The enterprise versions of the software are designed for organizations rather than individual users.
"Active Software Assurance customers will continue to have rights to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer -- while also benefiting from the full flexibility to deploy Windows 10 using their existing management infrastructure," the company said.
The free upgrade will still extend to "hundreds of millions of customers" around the world, according to Microsoft.
It's the first time the company has offered a free upgrade on this scale. Getting so many people on board with the Windows refresh will "create a broad opportunity for our ecosystem partners to drive innovation, and deliver value to all Windows 10 customers," the company said.
The world met Windows 10 at an event last year. However, last month Microsoft showed off new consumer-driven features that support the company's goal to increase productivity.

It's taken over 15 months, but KitKat is now powering almost 40 percent of Android devices visiting the Google Play store.
The data, which is based on smartphones and tablets accessing the Google Play store over a 7-day period ending on February 2, 2015, also shows that Google's newest mobile operating system, version 5 (codenamed Lollipop), is now installed on 1.6 percent of devices.

Google
While this is a significant milestone for Google, it is painfully slow compared to the adoption rate for Apple's iOS 8, which broke the 50 percent in 40 days and currently stands at 69 percent.
With KitKat, along with the now aging Jelly Bean, now powering four out of every five Android devices accessing the Google Play store, the older platforms are slowly being squeezed out. However, they are still likely to remain significant well into this year, and possibly next.
The slow pace of updates means that users stuck on older versions of Android are being left vulnerable to malware and data theft as a result of bugs in the code not being patched. It also forces app developers to support a myriad of what are essentially obsolete versions of Android while simultaneously being unable to fully take advantage of the new Android APIs in their apps.
Also, with Lollipop now beginning to make its presence felt, the importance of KitKat will now wane.

Ever thought of scanning the clothes you wear and sharing the product information with your friends through selfies and earning rewards with an app?
'Stylinity' app to click fashion selfie
An app called 'Stylinity' enables users scan the barcode on products they wear and helps them attach a shoppable link and product's description along with any photos they wish to share of themselves wearing the products.

If their friends want to buy the product, they do not have to go scout for it online as there is a direct link to it, a website reported.

Users earn reward points from the retailers that the app partners. These points are redeemable for cash or products.

"It is like an automated photo booth in the dressing room," Tadd Spering, the app's founder and CEO, was quoted as saying.

The app has partnerships with over 180 retailers and caters to women in the age group 18-34.

"Stylinity is different because a selfie is authentic, user-generated content. It doesn't repel customers and makes brands more real," Spering added.

Apple has declared a record net profit for the quarter ended December 2014. Here's an Indian perspective of this spectacular performance.

Apple's quarterly profit is more than four times the annual profit of the Indian company with highest profits. The net profit of ONGC for 2013-14 was Rs 26,506 crore.

This is 55% more than the total net profit of Nifty companies. The 50 Nifty companies made Rs 72,125 crore during the July-Sept 2014 quarter.

This can buy the three largest Indian companies, TCS, ONGC and Reliance Industries. Their combined market capitalisation is Rs 10,86,500 crore.

All 50 Nifty companies put together made only Rs 32 crore per hour in the July-Sept 2014 quarter.

ess than half of Apple's cash reserves can wipe out India's fiscal deficit of Rs 5,31,177 crore.

If the gigantic cash pile was distributed among the estimated 1.25 billion Indians, each of us will get Rs 8,828.
